B. Weston
'I had a really wonderful time! Slightly nervous to come alone, but I needn't have been. The people were all very friendly and we had great fun and lots of laughs throughout the trip, and that includes (the walk leader)!'

'Loved the fact that I had to do nothing - just arrive and follow!'

Holiday Overview
Join us in the delightful Yorkshire Dales, home of dramatic limestone escarpments and lush green valleys. Our base is in the busy Dales village of Ingleton, nestling under the flanks of Ingleborough, the most shapely and best-known of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.
Our walking will be at Easy to Moderate level, where on each full walking day we will cover around 7- 9 miles on routes that include limited steady ascent. If summit-bagging in The Dales is more your thing, please head to our Yorkshire 3 Peaks Walking Holiday.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Waterfalls Trail
If you can, join us on the arrival day by 1:30 pm for a half day local walk to get to know your fellow travellers and the environment close by. Our plan will be to walk the famous Ingleton Waterfalls Trail.
[3.5 hours walking]
For those who are unable to arrive by then, join us for dinner at 6:30 pm, after which we will talk through our planned programme.
Day 2 - Settle Carlisle Railway Adventure
We take the regular service (not the steam train, but we may well see it!) from nearby Settle towards Carlisle, passing the very best of Dales scenery as we cross the famous viaducts at Ribblehead and Dent, built in Victorian times to span these majestic valleys. After an hour or so we reach the Eden Valley where the landscape changes from white limestone to radiant-red sandstone, and follow tracks alongside the River Eden through chocolate-box villages. We return to Settle by train, and then our transport takes us back to our accommodation after a busy and satisfying day's adventure.
[6 hours walking]
Day 3 - Kingsdale & Yordas Cave
From Ingleton Village we walk along the broad valleys of Kingsdale with its bristling limestone crags on its skyline. Easy tracks lead to the entrance of Yordas Cave, which served as a public show-cave in Victorian days. Ascending onto the moor above the valley we pick up the ancient Turbary Road (a wide stone track) and pass the impressive shake-hole entrances to Jingling Pot and Rowten Pot before descending to our pick-up spot from where our taxi returns us to our hotel.
[6 hours walking]
Day 4 - Twisleton Scars & Ribblehead
We'll walk up to Twisleton Scars to join the tracks that make up Wainwright's 'A Pennine Journey' trail. Our route gives tremendous views across to Ingleborough, to Whernside, the highest of the 3 peaks, and the famous Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle to Carlisle Railway.
[4 hours walking]
Please note that the above itinerary is subject to weather conditions being favourable. Walking times shown are approximations and may vary. Our aim, above all, is to make the right choice each day so that we enjoy the most appropriate route for the conditions.
Accommodation
For our Yorkshire Dales walking break we have chosen as a base The Wheatsheaf Inn in Ingleton village. Accommodation is in single occupancy, en-suite rooms, and meals are provide in the residents' dining room. The hotel has a welcoming spacious public bar and beer garden. This is a busy bustling village that has a heated pool in the centre where you can relax after a day of fresh air and exercise.
Hotel postcode: LA6 3AD
To reach Ingleton by public transport, take the train to Clapham (the one in Yorkshire - not London!!). From there, a 4 mile taxi journey brings you to the village.
