Itinerary

Day 1 - Waterfalls Trail

If you can, join us on the arrival day by 1:30 pm for a half day local walk to get to know your fellow travellers and the environment close by. Our plan will be to walk the famous Ingleton Waterfalls Trail.

[3.5 hours walking]

For those who are unable to arrive by then, join us for dinner at 6:30 pm, after which we will talk through our planned programme.

Day 2 - Whernside

The ascent of Whernside from Ribblehead is full of interest, beginning alongside the famous Settle to Carlisle railway, with views of the Ribblehead Viaduct to the west.  Yet another famous trail - the Dales High Way - takes us round the shoulder of our mountain so that we approach it from the north and complete a traverse of its summit following the 5 km long ridge before descending to the green pastures of the Doe Valley.

[5-6 hours walking]

Day 3 - Ingleborough

From the village of Clapham, we ascend Ingleborough via the famous gorge of Trow Gill and passing the entrance to Gaping Gill, the largest open cave chamber in England. From the hill summit we will gain expansive views of Whernside and Pen-y-ghent, as well as numerous other Yorkshire peaks. Our route continues over Simon Fell to pick up the Pennine Bridleway, which returns us to our start point

[6 hours walking]

Day 4 - Pen-y-ghent

From Horton-in-Ribblesdale we pick up the Pennine Way and follow it to the summit of Pen-y-ghent. This is a perfect place to soak up the impressive views of the summits we have already visited, and across the Upper Ribble Valley to a wilderness of moorland and limestone pavement. We then descend to pick up another famous trail 'The Pennine Journey' which returns us to our start point in time for a departure around 2 pm.

[3 hours walking]

Please note that the above itinerary is subject to weather conditions being favourable. Walking times shown are approximations and may vary. Our aim, above all, is to make the right choice each day so that we enjoy the most appropriate route for the conditions.
