YORKSHIRE DALES : WALKS AND RAILS
We are very excited about our first walking programme to include a ride on the stunning Settle to Carlisle railway (September 22-25th 2025). An hour of riding this iconic line takes us from the best limestone scenery in England to The Eden Valley – a very different, but equally beautiful place to walk.
Departing from Settle, the line quickly climbs into the Yorkshire Dales, where rolling green hills and drystone walls frame sweeping valleys. As the train follows this famous line, we cross the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, its towering arches offering breath taking views of open moorland and distant fells. Further viaducts, bridges and tunnels follow in a series of impressive feats of Victorian engineering. The route continues, winding past remote farms, sparkling rivers, and rugged limestone outcrops.
Entering Cumbria, the landscape softens into wooded valleys and gentle farmland. Small stone-built villages flash by, each with its own quiet charm. Approaching Lazonby, nestled in the lush Eden Valley, the journey combines dramatic upland scenery with rural calm. The local rock here is a deep red sandstone, which is widely used for construction here, giving the valley such a contrasting appearance to the limestone country where we began.
This unforgettable day out is part of our ‘Explore The Dales’ guided walking trip September 22-25th. For further information please see HERE.
Alternatively, on the same dates, and from the same base in Ingleton, we have our 'Yorkshire Three Peaks' walking break, ideal if you fancy bagging these iconic hills, one peak at a time. Full details of our Y3P guided trip are HERE.
Hope you can join us!
