Holiday Overview
This is a week of walking this beautiful south-facing coastline at the height of summer, when the days are long, and there is an excellent chance that our evenings will be memorable for relaxing on the hotel terrace after a rewarding day. Our walking will help us experience this unique part of Pembrokeshire at its best and before the main holiday season.
Our walks will include a mix of island and coastal routes, with time to take breaks and picnic on the beaches. Our walking will be at an ‘easy to moderate’ level, which means we will cover around 10-16 km (7 to 10 miles) on a full walking day. There is some ascent and descent as we follow the coast path, but these are not overly demanding, and are on good tracks. -

This is a Grade 2, 'Easy to Moderate’ walking holiday, designed for those who would like to walk for 5-6 hours in a day, and 3-4 hours on a half-day. Routes usually involve only gentle ascent and descent, and all walking is on good paths with no technical difficulties. Our aim is always to take our walks at a steady pace, stopping for breaks and to admire the views.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Getting Our Bearings
We aim to meet at 4.30 pm for a stroll down to the harbour and onto Tenby’s beautiful North and South Beaches to walk, dip our toes, and celebrate arrival with a welcome drink.
Day 2 - Tenby to Amroth Castle
We begin in the colourful seaside town of Tenby and follow the Wales Coast Path eastwards, enjoying wonderful views across Carmarthen Bay. Leaving South Beach behind, we walk along clifftop paths and through attractive coastal scenery. We pass through Saundersfoot, where there is time to explore the harbour or stop for refreshments.
Beyond the village, the route becomes quieter and more rugged, with rolling headlands, sheltered coves and views along the coastline. We continue through Wiseman’s Bridge before following the gentler shoreline towards Amroth. Our walk finishes beside the sea at Amroth, where we can see the remains of the historic castle.
This rewarding route combines beautiful scenery, seaside villages and fascinating local history.
[6-7 hours walking including stops, 15 km]
Day 3 - Tenby to Manorbier
We leave the historic seaside town of Tenby and follow the Pembrokeshire Coast Path south-west along a spectacular stretch of coastline. The route climbs onto grassy clifftops, giving us wide views across the sea and nearby beaches.
We follow the well-marked path over rolling headlands, passing rocky coves and enjoying the fresh sea air. Along the way, we may spot seabirds soaring above the cliffs and colourful wildflowers during the warmer months. As we approach Skrinkle Haven, the scenery becomes particularly dramatic, with impressive limestone cliffs and clear blue water below.
We then continue towards the attractive village of Manorbier, where our walk finishes near the beach and the impressive medieval castle.
[5 hours walking including stops, 10 km]
Day 4 - Manorbier to Bosherston
We leave Manorbier and follow the coast path across open clifftops, enjoying wide sea views and the rugged beauty of the Pembrokeshire coastline. The route rises and falls gently as we pass secluded coves, dramatic limestone cliffs and peaceful stretches of coastal grassland.
We reach Stackpole Quay, a small and picturesque harbour that makes an excellent place for a short break. From here, we continue to the beautiful sands of Barafundle Bay, one of the highlights of the walk.
We then follow the coast towards Broad Haven South, with its wide beach, dunes and striking cliffs. Finally, we turn inland and walk beside the peaceful Bosherston Lily Ponds before finishing in the village of Bosherston.
[7 hours walking including stops, 15 km]
Day 5 - Exploring Caldey Island
We travel by boat from Tenby to the peaceful and beautiful Caldey Island. After arriving at the landing stage, we follow quiet paths through open countryside and towards the island’s historic centre. We visit Caldey Abbey, home to a community of Cistercian monks, and enjoy the calm atmosphere and attractive surroundings.
Continuing across the island, we walk through farmland and woodland before reaching the dramatic southern coastline. We enjoy wonderful sea views and see the island’s distinctive lighthouse standing above the cliffs. Along the way, we may spot seabirds, wildflowers and the island’s famous red squirrels. We then make our way towards the sandy beach at Priory Bay before returning to the landing stage.
[5 hours walking including stops, 6-8 km]
Day 6 - A Leg-stretch Before Travel
We take an hour or two for a stroll
along South Beach to bid farewell to Tenby before heading home or on to our
next destination.
