Itinerary
Day 1 - Upper Borrowdale
Join us by 2:00 pm when we will meet in hotel lounge for a 2 hour walk to shake off the journey and get familiar with this unique location at the head of what is arguably the most scenic valley in The Lakes.
[2 hours walking, 5 km]
Day 2 - Upper Borrowdale
We take the open top bus down into Keswick (quicks shopping opportunity!) before walking along the lake shore to Lingholm Gardens, where Beatrix Potter used to visit and where the walled garden is said to be the inspiration for Mr McGregor’s! If that is not your thing, they also have a superb coffee shop and stunning arboretum. Continuing our walk along the shore of Derwentwater, we stop for a picnic lunch at Brandlehow Bay, and then continue over the River Derwent to reach the Borrowdale Hotel. There is time to take refreshments in the (beautiful!) garden before catching the bus back to our hotel.
[5 hours walking including stops, 8 km]
Day 3 - Buttermere
We take the bus over Honister Pass and on to Buttermere Village, known for its tiny but striking pink granite church and idyllic location between two lakes. We walk a lap of Buttermere Lake on easy paths, surrounded by very steep hill sides and impressive, craggy summits. To give an idea of how dramatic the scenery is here, it was chosen as a film location for the parachute scenes in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning 1.
[3 hours walking, 7 km plus travel time]
Day 4 - Langstrath Valley and Galleny Force
Walking from our hotel, we head through open fields into the quiet valley of Langstrath to visit the series of cascades and pools known as Galleny Force. This is a great place to stop for a sandwich and to take photos, before we cross the river at a scenic bridge and return via the attractive village of Rosthwaite.
[4 hours walking, 7 km]
Day 5 - Honister Pass
We take the bus to the summit of the pass, where there is a small visitor centre, and then walk back down tracks into the head of Borrowdale with stunning views across to Glaramara Mountain and the village of Seatoller.
[2.5 hours walking, 5 km]
