(May 11-17th 2026) - It’s mental health awareness week, and a great opportunity to spread the word about some of the amazing benefits of joining a small group walking holiday. It offers a simple but powerful way to feel healthier, happier, and more connected.
We began offering Skyline guided walking holidays 5 years ago as the Covid pandemic restrictions eased, and travel became possible again. Coming out of that tough time, it was more apparent than ever that there was a real need for people to walk and talk together in landscapes that were inspiring, and which somehow ‘put everything into perspective’.
There is no shortage of scientific appraisals on why this works, but, for most people, the science isn’t necessary, because they can sense intuitively that time in nature, shared with other people brings perspective, joy, peace, connection, inspiration, physical wellbeing… the list goes on and on.
Walking side by side with someone often makes conversation feel more natural and relaxed. People can chat, laugh, and support each other without pressure, and may feel more comfortable opening up about their worries while walking together than they would sitting indoors. This sense of connection can reduce loneliness and remind people that they are not alone.
As we provide guided holidays, and limit our group size to 10 people, we hope our customers can feel confident that they are being well looked after (we probably won’t get lost, and if there’s a particularly special spot to stop for a view or a cuppa, we won’t miss it!). A small, cohesive group means there’s a great chance of making lasting friendships and of feeling part of things at all times.
