Fish, chips, and the aurora borealis

Northumberland Coast – last week’s photos (below) by kind permission of participants

A week of FASCINATING weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of those who came along to walk the Northumberland Coast last week.

Impressive Easterlies whipped up the sea into the kind of waves you find yourself staring at for a long time.  They easily topped the harbour walls and gave an air of battling adventure to our coastal walking, where they pounded the rocks in a constant assault.

A blessed respite came when we visited Holy Island.  Here we finally managed to top up the tans and enjoy bright skies as we walked the perimeter of this unique spot before spending time checking out the famous castle and priory, and almost as famous mead and gin shop.

This is an amazing place for its history (of course) but also for its bird and sea life.  The occasional cheeky seal made a brief appearance.

Our final evening was especially memorable: standing at the harbour wall watching the northern lights above Bamburgh Castle.

A big thank you to those who came along and made this such an enjoyable social week as well as a time of wonderful walking.
